Tent Permit Plans for Roseville (Roseville Fire)

Planning a tented event in Roseville? Here's what Roseville Fire typically asks for, and how we can help you get there faster.

Do I need a permit?

A Temporary Tent Permit and inspection are needed for tents over 200 sq ft and canopies over 400 sq ft.

What Roseville Fire asks for

Cooking under or near the tent

No open flame or heat-producing device in the tent. Cooking and heating equipment stays at least 10 ft from exits and combustibles. Spark- or grease-producing cooking stays at least 20 ft from the tent. No water-barrel ballast. Cooking near tents is subject to Fire review.

How the process works

  1. Apply by email to [email protected] at least 10 days ahead.
  2. Book the inspection 48 hours ahead at (916) 774-5800. The inspection must happen before the tent is used.
  3. A public park event needs a Special Event Permit 60 days ahead. City parks allow sandbags only, no staking.

Long-term tents may need a building permit.

How long does review take?

Roseville Fire doesn't publish a set review time, so apply well ahead. Apply at least 10 days ahead. The fee is $326 for 401–1,499 sq ft, with higher tiers for larger tents. That schedule is effective July 1, 2026. Fees may change.

Code basis

Roseville Municipal Code chapter 16.16 (Roseville Fire Code) adopts the 2025 California Fire Code with local amendments.
